Mubadala Brazil’s best performance yet – culminating in its first ever race win – takes center stage of the latest episode of SailGP’s behind-the-scenes docuseries Racing on the Edge.
The episode reflects back on the fledgling team’s entry into the league this season, when SailGP’s first female driver – and double Olympic champion – Martine Grael lined up against the best male sailors in the world.
It was a challenging start for the team, with back of fleet performances and a painful penalty for an incident with Germany Deutsche Bank in Sydney.
The episode zeroes in on the Rolex Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix, which saw the Brazilians come within touching distance of its first race win before being pipped at the post by Tom Slingsby’s BONDS Flying Roos. Despite this flash of promise, Los Angeles ended up being the team’s worst result so far.
Fast-forward to New York and Grael is still chasing the illusive first race win. Amid a chaotic start to the second day of racing with a light air configuration, high winds and no fly zone in force over New York, the Brazilians and Spanish went head to head in the fourth fleet race, leading the fleet from Mark 1.
But it was the Brazilians that held their nerve and managed to cross the line first – marking Grael’s first ever race win. Combined with consistent fleet racing all weekend, this meant the Brazilians almost qualified for its first Final too – but just lost out to Season 4 champions Spain.

Racing on the Edge features unprecedented access and up close interviews with the Championship’s biggest personalities, including team drivers Tom Slingsby, Dylan Fletcher and Martine Grael, and CEOs Ben Ainslie and Jimmy Spithill.
Next up, SailGP returns to the United Kingdom for the seventh event of the 2025 Season calendar; the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix | Portsmouth on July 19/20.
