The Monaco Blue Initiative (MBI) serves as a dynamic forum for addressing the pressing challenges in ocean conservation and governance. It brings together a diverse array of stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, scientists, industry leaders, and media professionals, fostering dialogue and collaboration to tackle issues like marine protection and sustainable blue economic development.
MBI’s annual meetings are structured to generate actionable insights and synergies, balancing the imperatives of environmental conservation with economic interests. These discussions influence key global negotiations, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the ongoing talks on Marine Biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction.
Through its recommendations, the MBI supports international efforts to safeguard the ocean’s ecological health while advancing the sustainable use of marine resources, emphasizing innovative approaches and shared responsibility.
The Monaco Blue Initiative was launched in 2010 by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and is co-organized by the Oceanographic Institute – Prince Albert I of Monaco Foundation, and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
The MBI is held every year in the framework of the Monaco Ocean Week, a week of debate, analysis and awareness-raising to better understand the challenges facing our future Ocean.
