Speed sailing project SP80 has just obliterated its previous top speed of 52 knots, clocking a blistering 58.261 knots — faster than both AC75s (55.6 knots) and SailGP F50s (55.06 knots), making it the second-fastest sailing craft ever recorded.
This incredible feat places SP80 just behind Vestas Sailrocket II and its legendary 68.01-knot run. Averaging 48.645 knots over 500 meters, the team is now edging closer to official WSSRC records, with eyes on:
- 50.07 knots (Category C) – Macquarie Innovation
- 51.36 knots (Category D) – L’Hydroptère
The ultimate goal? Paul Larsen’s absolute 65.45-knot benchmark. With just over 16 knots to go, the challenge is massive — but SP80 is clearly on a record-breaking trajectory.
