Drama unfolded just moments after the start of Leg One of The Ocean Race Europe, as Team Holcim PRB and Allagrande MAPEI Racing collided at high speed in Kiel.
Both yachts returned to the dock with visible damage, forcing them to suspend racing while shore crews work on urgent repairs. Thankfully, all crew members are safe.
Skippers Rosalin Kuiper (Holcim PRB) and Ambrogio Beccaria (Allagrande MAPEI) expressed deep disappointment, but both teams remain determined to return to the race as soon as possible.
“We will overcome this. We have a very strong team… we will repair the boat ASAP and be back on the starting line,” said Kuiper.
Meanwhile, Biotherm and Paprec Arkéa pulled ahead, claiming the first points at the Kiel Lighthouse scoring gate.
The International Jury will review a formal protest filed by Holcim PRB against Allagrande MAPEI Racing.
